This site was developed by Michael and Liz in 1998. We were partly funded by a DMI Fellowship but the site was always intended as a TAFE resource, not a DMI one. There is a need for a friendly, local online site where both students and staff can practise their online skills.

We could for example:

• Have debates and discussions on a range of topics between classes
• Hold chats once a week for any students who wished to join in
• Run email projects but also be able to actually meet f2f during the project
• Display individual or campus web pages
• Use the site for moderation of standards by holding exemplars and inviting discussion etc
• Disseminate reports, new courses, papers, plans, dreams

• Open Netscape (or other browser)
• In the location box, key in the TAFE WebCT address

We currently have the following sections but hope for a major revamp by the end of this course!

• Professional development: all the notes from the training
• Links for life: links to jobs, immigration dept, health, legal and news, govt etc
• ESL & the internet: links to ESL quizzes, resources, online schools
• Want to Chat?: our own chat rooms (you need Netscape Gold or later browser)
• Student Work: pages created by students from DMI campuses
• Quizzes: links to lots and lots of language quizzes
• Guide to ESL and the Internet: a resource for teachers with worksheets, course outline etc.
• Home Pages: you can (and we initially did) make a homepage in here but it’s easier in Composer
• Sample module: embarrassing and needs redoing
• Bulletin board: asynchronous forum for discussions under topics (or threads)
• Private Mail: another feature we may not actually end up keeping
• Calendar: is there a use for this?
